Yesterday was a very significant day for me. Not only was it my and my fiance’s 3rd year “anniversary” but it was also, ironically, the day I ordered the gown I will wear when I meet him at the alter.
Yesterday was wedding dress day.
I took along only my mother and my very special aunt. You see, my aunt and I have a very special bond because I lived with her for almost 2 years when I was in college and when I did get a place of my own, I didn’t live far away (and consequently spent a LOT of time at her house – doing my laundry, eating her leftovers, hanging out). I didn’t want a jury of people, all having opinions, for this special day. I also want the dress to be a mystery until the day of the wedding – which is why there will be no pictures posted on the blog – Sorry, Friends!
I went in with an open mind and nothing set in stone with regards to what I wanted. This opened the doors of possibility WIDE UP and I tried on at least 12 gowns! Oddly, the gown I saw online and thought would be ‘the one’ just didn’t do it for me. It was a total fail, and I ended up in something I’m not sure I would have picked out on my own. Thank goodness for my mom. Mom’s know best, if no one ever told you!
The only description I’m giving of the gown that I ended up ordering is that it’s a classic meets modern look. It’s the kind of gown that I can look at our wedding pictures in 10 years and not think “wow, that was a total trend gown for the time”. It’s in keeping with the style of the ring…elegant, stunning, and a hint of vintage-ness.
It was a hard decision, but the more I reminisce about the gown, the more I fall in love with it. I’m glad I didn’t have anyone take pictures (I took the camera, just in case, but left it in the car…thankfully). I would be SOOOOO tempted to share my excitement with anyone and everyone who would be willing to listen/look.
Here’s a peak at a few of the gowns I tried on:
On a side note, I wanted to share that the workouts (starting back at the end of last winter) are paying off!! My back looked great in the strapless/backless gowns, and getting into a size 4 does a LOT to keep up the motivation! We actually ordered a size 6, so I have a little more room across the chest area, but the waist and hips of the gown will have to be taken in a bit. These are the types of rewards that make those workouts oh-so worth it!!
I’m still worn out from all of yesterday’s excitement. So glad I could share, at least a taste, of my day with you.
